Bonus

As I reviewed, the Website for communication I really found it helpful. It was easy to navigate and had lots of information that a newly recruited freshmen would need. I liked how all the track courses needed for each degree within the Communication department was right there. I didn't have to search. I also found the pictures of the mentors for each degree helpful. If I were a freshmen, that would help to relieve some uncertainty when meeting with an advisor for the first time. It was a personable aspect to the Website. The only thing that I saw that I really didn't like was the "I" in the "What can I do with a communication degree?" I feel that it is too big. At first glance, I thought it was a line. It took a little bit for me to realize that it was an "I." Other than that tiny critic I found the Website to be well designed. Great job Eric!! =)

Final

Part Two:
Artifact one: This artifact gives a sense of psychomotor first. It makes you feel as if you were alone or the only one standing of your kind. The burnt tree gives you a feeling of sadness because of what has occurred in So-Cal of 07. The sun and bird in the photo presents hope for what will lie in the future for those areas and victims if help is received. After this sense of feeling has been accepted, for me, I realize the damage that has occurred in those areas and makes me want to do something to help these victims. The poster expresses encouragement to their audience in order to help the victims within those areas of the fire damage.

Artifact two: I love the idea for this poster. Even though it is very bold, it gets the point across to the audience as clear as it can. The cognitive response to this poster, is realizing that there are people who really do need help with extracting suicidal thoughts. This poster reveals that it can start with something as simple as having a support system to turn to: family, friends, co-works, etc. The psychomotor aspect of this poster is very emotional. It definitely makes you think twice about the aspect of suicide itself. The poster portrays the reality of suicide and all the emotion connections that follows. The poster would make any audience log on to EndSuicideNow.org and create a support system for victims of suicidal thoughts. This poster was well designed for the cognitive, psychomotor, and affective consequences.

Artifact three:
The last posters portray a strong cognitive and psychomotor affect, but throughout all the posters none of them make me want to do something. I feel that the posters are there to plant the idea that anything is POSSIBLE, but they don’t fully extravert the idea that anything is POSSIBLE. They leave the conclusion up to the audience. By doing so, some might act upon the statement but I feel that most will not put any action towards affective consequences. The posters are more of a good learning substitute that portrays emotion rather than affective consequences. I do feel the posters reveal a little affective consequence, but it is not as recognizable as the other posters. I really don’t care for these posters and their meaning that they portray to their audience.

Part One:
Ford: I think Ford decided to go with this font because it gives that appearance of quality. Since the font is cursive, it creates that quality appearance. Ford had been around for very long time, and their main goal is to make an affordable quality car that suits every lifestyles. Ford has been able to brand this font because of the history that lies behind the Ford symbol. People can trust that they are receiving a well built car. The font and products produce has built a common trust for their audience to rely on when purchasing a car or truck.

Rolls Royce: I think they chose the font they did because is presents a roundness or curve to each letter. The font is not bold or italic, it's sleek and clean. Since the Rolls Royce cars are very classic in their appearance, the font resembles that classic affect. The cars are of a higher grade car, for those who can afford them, and the font represents that well. The car and font go hand in hand with the appearance that they perceive to their audience.

Jeep: I feel Jeep chose the font they did because it represents a rough tough exterior, which is what they want you to think when you see a jeep. Jeep is known for being able to go places where regular trucks or cars can't and with the font type used it creates the feel of adventure. I feel they bolded the font to make it seem tough and ready for a challenge. All Jeep commercials show a Jeep cruising along a long and dusty dirt road, climbing over rocks, going through streams or pushing through deep snow. The Jeep font gives that hard core appearance as well.

Our assignment was to design a communication artifact. I chose to design a shampoo and conditioner bottle since I am always changing up my hair style. The line of my shampoo and conditioner is Accessorize. The reason behind the name is because I think of my hair as being an accessory rather than just hair. It is the one thing that I can quickly change about myself and feel confident. Being able to change my hair helps to boost my self-esteem and confidence and that is what I want to be able to provide for every women. This line of shampoo and conditioner is designed for all types of hair and provides color defense to color-treated hair. Accessorize’s exclusive powerful 360 degree Protective Complex delivers UV filter, anti-oxidant vitamin E, conditioning silicone and ion blockers to help shield, stabilize and secure color vibrancy. With this line your hair is shiny, manageable, and refreshed.

My Font Part 2

Well, here we are again trying to create another font that represents us and what not better than my own penmanship. I chose to use my own penmanship because, simple put, I like my penmanship. I have developed my own way of creating certain letters that are quite different than normal penmanship. My penmanship is recognizable and actually readable. I decided to add a little flavor to my letters by creating small circles at the end of each letter point. I call it Cirney--a mix of Whitney's penmanship with circles.

My Font

Our challenge this week was to design our own font using a program called Fontstruct. I didn't quit understand the program so my font isn't the best, but in a way I think it represents me. I love polka-dots so I decided to used the circles to create my font. I chose not to use just one size of a circle, but rather four different sizes in each letter. I like the way it draws your eye from the top of the letter to the bottom of the letter. Creating this font took time and more effort than I thought it would. I really would like to make a font look like the style of writing I have. It would make an e-mail even more personal. All in all it was fun.

Comparison of Design

For my design comparison, I have chosen to compare the greatest tool ever invented for women, mascara. The reason why I have chosen mascara is simply because a women will decided what mascara she chooses based solely on the design principles of the packaging. A woman is unable to take out the actual product and test it before she makes the purchase. The mascara of her choice is based off the appeal of the design elements.

The two mascaras that I found to be close in design relationship, but totally different in design appeal is Covergirl lashblast Luxe mascara and Maybelline New York The Colossal Volum’ Express mascara.

For me personally, I like the cleanness design of Covergirl’s lashblast Luxe mascara. It may not be the attention grabber out of the bunch, unlike the other one, but it draws me in. The fact that I can see the brush helps me to factor in the application of the mascara to my eye lashes. The Maybelline’s mascara design only shows a graphic image of the brush.
The Covergirl’s mascara design is well balanced. The reaction to that design is softer unlike the reaction to the Maybelline’s mascara. When looking at the Maybelline’s mascara, I had a hard time trying to focus on a particular part of the design. The contrast principles used for each packaging design is completely different. The purple and yellow color scheme of the Maybelline’s mascara felt a bit overwhelming at first glance. You have the tube of mascara that is bright yellow and the purple background with bright yellow writing. For myself, I think there are too many different font sizes for the Maybelline design. It goes from big to tiny in random areas of the design, which is another reason it is hard for my eye to focus on certain area. Too much is going on in such a small area! As for the Covergirl’s contrast principles, the presentation of the product is much calmer. You have a white background with faint, but still vivid, writing with a bright pink mascara tube. The Covergirl’s design concept uses lighter colors so that the product mascara tube is what catches your eye first. The Covergirl design seems effortless compared to the Maybelline design.
The noise relation to both of these mascara products was quite different. When choosing the Covergirl mascara I didn’t have much thought. Its packaging is clear and simple, unlike the Maybelline packaging. The Maybelline packaging made me confused. I could not clearly tell if the product was waterproof or not. I had to turn it over and read about the product to make a clear assessment. I also had a hard time trying to find the color of the mascara. On almost all mascara products it is in the upper right had corner except this one. The color indicator of the mascara is at the bottom of the packaging. Overall it was very frustrating and confusing.
What mascara would you perfer?????

Balance Lab

I was amazed by the Epsonality. I loved how it to into consideration that I don't have the first clue about printers and showed me a printer that could definitely fit my needs and budget. I was impressed that out of four simple questions it was able to calculate my Epsonality needs. The site was interesting and provides understandable details about the printer best suited for me. Epsonality is a creative site within itself. It definitely made me want to go buy a printer!!
The Epsonality site was well balanced and symmetrical. The display of the lab on the screen was well balanced. By having a work station on each side it was almost as if they were a mirror image, besides a few additive details. You were able to gain information without feeling overwhelmed and confused. My favorite part of the lab was the phone that kept ringing in the background. I found that to be a clever addition to the site. The site is clean and very simple to use.

As for the Pretty Loader site, I found it to be clever. I never imagined that there could be so many loader images. Some which are very creative!! (The site never would come up on my own computer so I was unable to view the images again.) One of the loader images that I can remember was of the Corona bottle. While the page was loading the audience viewed a bottle of Corona filling up to represent the loading time of the page. I don't drink, but if I did I could see how that might make you thirsty for a nice cold Corona!

Contrast Lab Assignment

To me this photo creates a psychological moment for me. The picture creates a sense of relaxation and peace becuase of the light blue tones used.

This photo conveys the cultural and social aspects of contrast. The bright colors and clothing helps the audience get a feel of the culture.

I wanted to use this photo because of the position and orientation. I really enjoyed looking at this photo in class because the entire time I was taking it in I was trying to find out the position of the picture. I love it!

I picked this photo because I feel that it has a high contrast of colors even though there are only a few colors pictured. The bright background of the colors helps the shadowed areas to stand out and caught the attention of the audience. I truly love this photo.

In this photo the contrast of shapes is represented. The photographer of the photo is focused on the circular shapes of a motorcycles lights. This photo was taken by Nicole Nivinski.

I choose this photo to represent contrast in size. In the photo you can see just how small the baby is compared to the hands holding it.

I loved this photo for texture contrast. There is texture everywhere in this photo. Starting at the top with the forehead, to the wrinkles around the eyes, to the nose, to the lips, to the mustache and even down to the chest. As I looked at the photo, I realized that aging is appearing as a sense of beauty.

I found this picture to convey contrast elements of highlights and shadows. The top of the trees are highlighted to help give the audience a sense of time of day the photo was taken. The shadows create a sense of depth to the photo.

Get the Glass Response

Get the Glass was a very artistically designed game that you play on the internet, and I must say fun too!! The game was very creative in many aspects of the design such as the layout, depth of field, contrast, visual and even the characters. The layout of the game made you feel as if you were in a 3D board game. It reminded me of a Disney Pixar movie. The same features were obtained. The look and feel really resembles a family board game and there is enormous attention to detail from the realistic physics of throwing the die, to the design of the in-game cards. Not only did this game challenge my eye and hand coordination, but I was impressed by the fact that I experience quite an involvement while playing the interactive challenges. The challenges were entertaining and designed to enable the audience to become engaged. The communication of this game was informative and visual at the same time. Get the Glass is able to teach their audience about the side effects of not drinking milk, and how milk will help improve not only our health, but things that go along with health like a person’s hair quality. Even I gained knowledge of milk after playing the game. This was a fun learning experience that anyone at any age can play.
